Kathmandu: (RightNow) A sudden flood has wreaked havoc at the Nepal-China border. The disaster has resulted in 98 deaths and 484 tourists missing. Several villages in the affected areas are submerged.

The flood has damaged 19 bridges and 40 kilometers of roads. Nepal reports 95 deaths, while China reports 3. Among the 391 missing foreign tourists are Indian, American, and British nationals.

Nepal’s Prime Minister’s Office states that the identification of bodies is pending, and 85 security personnel are also missing. China’s President has instructed efforts to locate the missing individuals.

Videos of the floodwaters show dozens of people being swept away. Nepal’s Ministry of Tourism fears more fatalities. India’s Prime Minister has offered aid to Nepal.

It is noteworthy that last July, a flood at the Nepal-China border resulted in 9 deaths. This time, an earthquake is suspected to have caused the flood.
