Nepal: (RightNow) A school principal’s bravery and quick response saved 1,643 children in Nepal. Principal Rajendra Dawadi of a school in Trishuli Valley took immediate action during the flood.

Rajendra Dawadi arrived at the school on Wednesday morning to assess the situation. He received a call from a friend warning that the river water had swept through the village. At that time, 1,643 children were present in the school.

Principal Dawadi immediately rang the school bell and instructed teachers to evacuate the children from classrooms. School buses were also called back, although one bus had already crossed the bridge.

All students and teachers took shelter under a tree on higher ground as the school building was engulfed by the flood. Dawadi’s strategy saved the children’s lives.

It is noteworthy that over 700 people have died in Nepal due to floods caused by a glacier burst. Locals have hailed Dawadi as a hero, though he considers himself ordinary.
