Islamabad: (RightNow) The possibility of petrol pump closures in Pakistan has resurfaced. The Petroleum Dealers Association has given the government a 72-hour ultimatum, threatening a strike if demands are not met.
Chairman of the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association, Malik Khuda Bakhsh, stated in a press conference that the government has made no progress on their demands. He announced that petrol pumps nationwide will close from 6 AM on August 15.
The chairman highlighted that daily changes in petroleum product prices are detrimental to dealers. According to him, the current pricing mechanism is increasing business difficulties.
The dealers demand an increase in their margin to 8% and a review of the pricing system. They claim the current margin is insufficient to cover their expenses.
It is noteworthy that this protest by dealers is against the margin increase and the new pricing system. A similar strike threat was made in March but was later postponed.
