Punjab government announces electric bikes for students without down payment to ease educational travel.
Lahore: (RightNow) Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed that no down payment be collected from students under the CM Electric Bike Scheme. She has also rejected recommendations for any additional charges beyond the monthly installment.
The Punjab government will cover the interest and insurance costs for the e-bikes. It has been agreed that students will pay a monthly installment of approximately 3 thousand rupees.
The Chief Minister has instructed the opening of the e-bike portal this week, ensuring eligible students receive bikes within six weeks.
Under the CM Electric Bike Scheme, helmets and safety rods will be provided free of charge. The bikes will be equipped with lithium iron phosphate batteries.
It is noteworthy that the bike scheme was launched in 2024 under the leadership of Maryam Nawaz. In the initial phase, 20 thousand bikes were distributed.
