Islamabad: (RightNow) A deadlock has emerged as President Asif Ali Zardari delays the decision on the appointment of High Court judges. To resolve this deadlock, the government has decided on crucial consultations.
The government’s legal team will meet with officials at the President’s House on Sunday. The aim of this meeting is to find a constitutional solution to the issue. The government is reviewing the legal aspects of the appointments under Article 48(1) of the Constitution.
The President’s House legal team has raised objections to the Judicial Commission’s recommendations. They argue that Article 175-A of the Constitution does not set a deadline for the President’s decision. Concerns have also been expressed about some nominated candidates.
According to government sources, efforts are being made to resolve the matter through mutual consensus outside the court. Sources from the President’s House have warned that unilateral action could lead to political and legal complications.
It is noteworthy that the Judicial Commission approved recommendations for the appointment of additional High Court judges in July. These recommendations were sent to the President via the Prime Minister, but no final decision has been made yet.
