Islamabad: (RightNow) The Islamabad High Court has demanded a response from the Islamabad administration regarding non-compliance with fire safety regulations in the federal capital. Chief Justice Sarfaraz Dogar presided over the hearing and issued notices to the Interior Secretary, CDA Chairman, Chief Commissioner, and MCI.

The petitioner Naveed Ashiq’s lawyer, Afrasiab, informed the court that a fire at PIMS Hospital resulted in the burning of infants, and the hospital lacked a fire department NOC (No Objection Certificate). The petition stated that buildings in Islamabad are operating without fire NOCs.

The petition argued that city buildings lack firefighting equipment, emergency exits, and fire alarms. The court was requested to enforce the 2010 fire safety regulations and conduct a fire safety audit of all buildings.

The petitioner urged the court to immediately seal buildings operating without fire NOCs. It was also recommended to establish an inspection system for monitoring illegal buildings.

It is noteworthy that the enforcement of fire safety laws is crucial for public safety, especially in large cities where the risk of accidents is higher.
