Islamabad: (RightNow) Efforts to rescue children at PIMS Hospital proved successful. CCTV footage showed the efforts of doctors, nurses, and security personnel. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown.
The investigative report revealed that fire exits were blocked or obstructed. Firefighters had to break doors. Fire and life safety measures at PIMS were deemed inadequate.
According to the report, the fire started at 6:38 PM, and the nursery environment deteriorated within 2 minutes. Charge Nurse Nasreen requested help. Doctors and nursing staff attempted to save the children.
Staff Nurse Razia rescued a newborn from the burning nursery. No evidence of electrical faults or tripping was found in the IESCO records. Issues were identified in the security and fire safety systems.
It is noteworthy that the hospital’s security company failed. The committee recommended removing Charge Nurse Nasreen and Security Guard Maria from duty.
