Kathmandu: (RightNow) A sudden and devastating flood in Nepal has resulted in the deaths of 180 people. Approximately 1500 individuals are missing, including 800 foreign tourists.

Nepali authorities report that landslides of mud and rocks into rivers caused the flooding. Police have indicated that the death toll may rise further.

A spokesperson for the Nepali army stated that relief supplies are being delivered to affected areas by helicopters. Over 5 thousand military and police personnel are involved in the rescue operations.

The floods are also affecting pilgrims from India traveling to Kailash Mansarovar, a site considered sacred by Hindus and Buddhists.

It is important to note that Nepal frequently faces earthquakes and natural disasters, impacting many regions of the country.
