Islamabad: (RightNow) The FIA Anti-Corruption Cell has exposed an alleged corruption network in immigration clearance at the New Islamabad Airport. A raid was conducted in Ghauri Town, Islamabad, following a tip-off from a Chinese national, leading to the arrest of immigration officer Junaid Mughal.

Evidence of WhatsApp chats and payments were found on Junaid Mughal’s mobile phone. Allegedly, 80,000 rupees per passenger were charged for immigration clearance of foreign nationals.

During the FIA operation, approximately 20 million rupees in cash were reportedly recovered from a car trunk. The money was found in a black suitcase and has been seized.

A spokesperson stated that Junaid Mughal admitted to receiving bribes from the Chinese national. Islamabad Police SPU officer Zafar Iqbal has also been arrested.

It is noteworthy that the FIA has registered a case under sections 109, 161, 419 PPC, and 5(2) 1947 PCA. The roles of other officials will be revealed during the investigation.
