FBR uncovers Rs 9.41 billion wealth statement fraud; legal action initiated under Anti-Money Laundering Act.
Islamabad: (RightNow) The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has uncovered a Rs 9.41 billion wealth statement fraud. Taxpayers disclosed illegal assets in old wealth statements, prompting legal action under the Anti-Money Laundering Act 2010.
FBR reported that 85 taxpayers altered wealth statements from tax years 2014 to 2019. These individuals declared cash, gold, prize bonds, and property during 2025 to 2026.
According to FBR, changes to wealth statements are not allowed after five years, but these cases exceeded the time limit.
It is noteworthy that in Lahore, a taxpayer disclosed Rs 102.8 million in a 2015 wealth statement in May 2026. These funds were used to purchase seven properties.
FBR has initiated 48 criminal investigations nationwide and filed a case in the Lahore incident. Actions against other accomplices are ongoing.
