The federal government is exploring constitutional measures in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, opting for alternatives to emergency or governor’s rule.
Islamabad: (RightNow) The federal government is considering various constitutional options to address the current political and security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The government has indicated a preference for a set of constitutional measures over emergency or governor’s rule.
Sources reveal that tensions are rising due to PTI’s decision to continue its march towards Islamabad. While conditions exist for both emergency and governor’s rule, the constitution allows for other measures as well.
The federal government is reviewing potential actions under Article 232 and Article 234 of the constitution. These steps are significant in the context of the province’s security situation and PTI’s march.
Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has seriously considered the imposition of emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He accused the provincial government of failing to control terrorism.
It is noteworthy that Article 232 permits emergency in severe situations, while Article 234 paves the way for governor’s rule if the constitutional system fails.
