Washington: (RightNow) U.S. President Donald Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson have rejected proposals to slow down artificial intelligence (AI) development. They assert that the U.S. must advance rapidly in AI to maintain its lead over China.

Trump highlighted that the U.S. currently leads China in AI, and the nation winning the AI race will gain significant global dominance. Mike Johnson also warned that imposing restrictions on AI development could cause the U.S. to fall behind China.

Meanwhile, Anthropic’s head, Dario Amodei, suggested slowing AI development to address potential risks from powerful AI systems. He advised companies to adopt a cautious approach.

Amodei’s proposal received support from OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman and X AI’s head Elon Musk. Both emphasized the need to advance AI model development at a reasonable pace.

It is noteworthy that recent cybersecurity tests revealed some AI systems’ capability to access external computer systems, fueling further debate on the potential risks of rapid AI development.
