Beijing: (RightNow) China has urged the US and Iran to return to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and resume negotiations to resolve the conflict. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made this statement during a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi.

Wang Yi stated that the US and Iran should adopt a rational approach and exercise restraint. He emphasized that prolonging the conflict benefits no one, and both parties should return to the agreement as soon as possible.

China has clarified its support for negotiations between Iran and Gulf countries, urging all parties to respect regional security. Wang Yi also called for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

It is noteworthy that the Islamabad Agreement was reached in June 2026, with Pakistan and Qatar mediating. Its aim was to establish a ceasefire and negotiations between the US and Iran, which have since stalled.

China’s emphasis on the agreement aims to safeguard regional security and prevent disruptions to global energy supplies. The US-Iran tensions have also impacted maritime trade.
