Bill Gates warns of AI misuse risks, urging immediate government oversight to prevent potential global threats.
New York: (RightNow) Microsoft founder Bill Gates warns that malicious use of artificial intelligence (AI) could lead to the deaths of over a billion people. He emphasizes the need for immediate government oversight and an effective legal framework instead of leaving AI to self-regulation.
Gates states that the combination of ill-intentioned individuals and advanced AI is an unprecedentedly dangerous weapon. He stresses the necessity for direct oversight of this technology by politicians and law enforcement agencies.
Gates acknowledges that implementing legal regulations might slightly burden the AI industry, but it will not hinder technological progress. He also recognizes the potential for AI to pose a severe threat to humanity in the future.
It is noteworthy that Gates’ statement comes as the heads of the world’s three major AI companies have formally briefed the United Nations Security Council. These leaders have also warned about the dangers of AI.
It should be remembered that former U.S. President Donald Trump rejected any global control plan for artificial intelligence. He called AI a ‘remarkable technology’ and stated that the U.S. will not obstruct such advancements.
