Geneva: (RightNow) The United Nations Commission has expressed serious concerns over Israeli military operations in Syria. The commission stated that actions such as the arrest of civilians could fall under war crimes.

Briefing the UN Human Rights Council, commission member Fionnuala Ní Aoláin reported increasing Israeli military activities in southern Syria. Ground incursions, patrols, raids, and search operations are ongoing.

According to the commission, by June, the Israeli military had detained 49 Syrian civilians, including two children. Some individuals were transferred across the border, cutting off their contact with the outside world.

The UN commission identified temporary checkpoints and permanent military installations in Quneitra and Daraa. These activities have led to the displacement of the local population.

It is noteworthy that the Syrian government welcomed the UN report, deeming it a violation of national sovereignty and the 1974 ceasefire agreement.
