Lahore: (RightNow) Rising water levels in the Chenab River are threatening Trimmu Headworks due to flooding. In Chiniot, a breach in the canal has submerged crops.

According to the Irrigation Department, the inflow at Trimmu Headworks is 148,650 cusecs, with an outflow of 136,050 cusecs. Water levels are expected to rise further in the next 24 hours.

District administration has completed protective measures to prevent potential flooding. Four flood relief camps have been set up in affected areas to provide assistance to residents.

In Chiniot, several acres of crops have been affected by the canal breach. Officials state that the pressure from the Chenab River’s flood surge caused the breach.

It is noteworthy that monsoon rains have increased river flows, and PDMA has advised precautionary measures.
