Islamabad: (RightNow) The Supreme Court emphasizes the need for gender sensitivity in investigating crimes against women. The court stated that domestic boundaries should not hinder accountability.

Supreme Court Justices Muhammad Hashim Khan Kakakhel and Ishtiaq Ibrahim rejected the appeal of accused Habibullah in the murder case of Aqila Bibi in Karachi. The court upheld the order for Rs 5 lakh compensation to the victim’s family.

The court noted that evidence in domestic violence cases could be lost, and murders might be disguised as accidents or suicides. It is the legal system’s duty to uncover the truth.

The court expressed anger over police investigation flaws, citing the failure to present a blood-stained hammer and sheet as negligence. Such carelessness makes justice more challenging in these crimes.

It should be noted that the Supreme Court has directed provincial governments to ensure gender-sensitive training for police officers. The court condemned attacks on women’s character, stating that the victim’s character cannot justify murder.
