Sanaa: (RightNow) Yemeni Houthi rebels have seized more key islands in the southern Red Sea. This capture strengthens their hold on crucial maritime routes near Bab al-Mandab.

According to an American news agency, the Houthis have taken control of Greater Hanish and Lesser Hanish islands. This development could pose challenges for the Saudi-backed Yemeni government.

Saudi-backed Yemeni forces are attempting counteractions against the rapid Houthi advance. Houthi fighters already control key locations around Bab al-Mandab, including Mocha city and Mayun Island.

Bab al-Mandab is one of the world’s most critical maritime passages, and disruptions or security threats could impact global trade. Concerns are also rising for Saudi Arabia’s oil exports.

It is noteworthy that recently, the Houthis have targeted Saudi oil and economic installations. The Houthi advance in Yemen has heightened fears of a humanitarian crisis.
