Riyadh: (RightNow) Saudi Arabia has temporarily shut its East-West oil pipeline following an attack amid ongoing Middle East conflict. The pipeline, targeted in Riyadh and Medina areas, has been closed as a precaution.

According to the Saudi Ministry of Energy, the 1200-kilometer pipeline, which transports 4 to 5 million barrels of oil daily, accounting for 4 to 5 percent of global supply, has been shut down.

Following the attack, Saudi Arabia refrained from retaliatory action at the request of the Iraqi Prime Minister. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the kingdom reserves the right to protect its interests.

This pipeline holds significant importance for Saudi Arabia due to the maritime blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Global oil prices have surged past $100 per barrel.

It is noteworthy that the Houthis have increased pressure on maritime traffic through the Red Sea. Iran has instructed the Houthis to intensify attacks against Saudi Arabia.
