Islamabad: (RightNow) The Central Power Purchasing Agency has submitted a request to NEPRA to increase electricity prices by Rs 2.52 per unit nationwide. This request is made under the fuel price adjustment for July.

NEPRA has stated that electricity generated from imported LNG in July cost Rs 47.37 per unit. According to the request, 10.78% of electricity was produced from LNG, costing Rs 77.19 billion.

According to NEPRA’s announcement, 1.42% of electricity was generated from furnace oil, costing Rs 10.77 billion. Electricity was also produced from water, coal, and nuclear sources at varying percentages.

The request indicates that 31 million units of electricity were generated from diesel in July, costing Rs 54.47 per unit. NEPRA’s hearing on this matter is scheduled for August 27.

It is important to note that if NEPRA approves the request, electricity rates may increase from September, potentially adding an extra burden of Rs 41 billion, including GST, on consumers.
