Guddu Power Plant restoration aims to cut electricity costs by Rs 4.19 per unit, improving its merit order position.
Guddu: (RightNow) International bids have been invited for the restoration of the steam turbine at the Guddu 747 MW Power Plant. The Power Division spokesperson states that this is expected to reduce electricity production costs from Rs 13.87 to Rs 9.68 per unit.
The spokesperson further mentioned that the Guddu Power Plant’s production capacity will increase by 297 MW, which is 66% more than the current output.
Since the fire incident in July 2022, Steam Turbine-16 and the related generator have been shut down, while the plant is currently producing 450 MW in open cycle mode.
It is important to note that after the complete restoration of combined cycle operations, the plant will generate 747 MW of electricity, and its merit order position is expected to improve to 7th place.
According to the Power Division spokesperson, the procurement process has started following a technical review, with the deadline for bid submissions set for October 7, 2026.
