Lahore: (RightNow) The electricity shortfall in Pakistan has surpassed 4,000 megawatts, leading to prolonged load shedding across Punjab, including Lahore.

Residents in Punjab report that electricity is being cut off for one hour after every hour. According to sources, the shortfall for LESCO (Lahore Electric Supply Company) has exceeded 1,200 megawatts.

Sources further reveal that solar power production during the day is reducing the shortfall. Approximately 7,000 megawatts of electricity are being generated from solar power daily.

The shortfall is increasing due to reduced production from power plants. The delay of an RLNG (Re-gasified Liquefied Natural Gas) ship at the port raises concerns of a worsening gas crisis.

It is important to note that power plants are being operated at reduced capacity to conserve gas and oil. Several projects are not operating at full capacity currently.
