NEPRA reserves decision on electricity price hike, potentially burdening consumers with Rs 34 billion.
Karachi: (RightNow) A potential increase in electricity prices is anticipated nationwide. The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has considered a proposal to raise electricity rates.
According to NEPRA, under the quarterly adjustment, the price per unit of electricity may increase by Rs 1.34 each month. This adjustment could lead to a price hike over the next three months.
The authority has reserved its decision on the request from electricity distribution companies. NEPRA will issue a decision after a complete review, which will determine the pricing.
Upon approval, consumers will face an additional burden of Rs 34 billion. This increase may pose further financial challenges for consumers.
It is noteworthy that NEPRA determines electricity prices every quarter. In the past, such increases have caused difficulties for consumers.
