Lahore: (RightNow) The Punjab Assembly’s Standing Committee on School Education revealed no law exists for determining private school fees. The School Education Department acknowledged this issue.

The Secretary of School Education stated that only annual increase regulations exist, allowing private schools to raise fees by 4 to 5 percent annually.

The committee chairman noted the department’s stance differed in the previous meeting. Members questioned why no action is taken for rule violations if registration authority exists.

Committee members argued that if the department permits school openings, it should also maintain checks and balances. They demanded the cancellation of registrations for schools violating rules.

It is noteworthy that some private schools charge thousands and lakhs in fees, potentially hindering education for children from poor families.
