Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi blames Sohail Afridi for failed talks, vows no repeat of May 9 events.
Lahore: (RightNow) Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has blamed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi for the failure of negotiations. He emphasized that the events of May 9 will not be allowed to recur.
During a press conference at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, Mohsin Naqvi stated that he briefed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Zardari on all matters. He claimed that Sohail Afridi sabotaged the negotiations.
Naqvi mentioned that the government sincerely engaged in 12 hours of talks, but the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government backed out at the last moment. He noted that Afridi altered the draft four times.
Naqvi further revealed that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister refused to discuss terrorism. The Interior Minister stated that the government never demanded the PTI to end the long march.
It is noteworthy that the Islamabad High Court ordered on September 14 that no political party can occupy public roads. Naqvi said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government withdrew from its commitments in the final stage of negotiations.
