Dubai: (RightNow) The International Cricket Council (ICC) has introduced significant changes to cricket rules. These changes aim to save game time, clarify ball standards, and simplify fielding regulations.

According to the ICC, these changes will be effective from October 1, 2026, for international series starting on or after this date. Ongoing series will continue under the old rules. The updates include recent amendments from the Marylebone Cricket Club for all formats of men’s and women’s cricket.

Sourav Ganguly, Chairman of the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee, stated that the new playing conditions are designed to improve the quality of balls, fielding, and game pace. These changes will help maintain transparency and uniformity in the game.

A key point in these changes is the strictness on batters wasting time. A warning will be issued first, followed by a 5-run penalty for a second violation. New standards for ball size and weight have also been set for women’s and junior cricket.

It is noteworthy that the ICC states these changes will help meet the demands of modern cricket and organize the game better. The aim is to clarify rules under various conditions and reduce time wastage.
