Lahore: (RightNow) Section 144 has been imposed across Punjab. Under this, gatherings of 5 or more people in public places are banned. This measure is taken due to threats to public peace and order.

Wedding ceremonies, funeral prayers, and places of worship are exempt from this ban. However, encouraging participation in any illegal gathering is prohibited. Law enforcement and security personnel are exempt from this restriction.

The enforcement of Section 144 in Punjab will last from September 23 to October 5. During these 14 days, all public gatherings and demonstrations are completely banned. According to the government notification, this step is taken to protect public life and property.

It is clear that intelligence reports indicate terrorist organizations are planning to target public gatherings. In light of this threat, law enforcement agencies have requested protective measures.

It should be noted that under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, this ban is implemented to restore public peace and order. The Punjab government has issued an immediate notification to ensure the protection of public life and property.
