The federal government introduces a transformer on-off system to control electricity theft, eliminating the need to shut down entire feeders.
Islamabad: (RightNow). The federal government has decided to introduce a new on-off system for electricity transformers. Energy Minister Owais Leghari states this system will eliminate the need to shut down entire feeders.
Owais Leghari, speaking to the media, explained that the new system will only turn off transformers where electricity theft is occurring. He mentioned that this is a new concept used globally.
The Energy Minister noted that after changes in the net metering system, people have started installing batteries. This has prevented the burden of approximately 3 to 4 lakh individuals from being transferred to other consumers.
It is important because frequent load shedding in feeder areas is often due to discos and their staff. The government has directed investment to improve the infrastructure of discos.
It should be noted that discos have not invested in the system to date. The government plans to implement load shedding on transformers instead of feeders to improve electricity issues.
