Islamabad: (RightNow). The Pakistan National Heart Association (PANAH) urges the government to swiftly implement front-of-pack warning labels on ultra-processed products. This will help consumers identify foods that pose health risks.

During a think tank meeting, PANAH experts expressed concern over the rising burden of heart diseases, diabetes, and obesity. They demanded immediate action against unhealthy foods.

Major General (Retd) Masood ur Rehman Kayani emphasized the need to provide consumers with clear information on food products. He stated that warning labels would aid consumers in making informed choices.

It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Health has already submitted evidence-based proposals to the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority. These proposals have been under consideration for two years.

PANAH has requested the government and relevant authorities to promptly enforce warning labels to reduce the harm caused by unhealthy foods.
