Islamabad: (RightNow) A ‘Made in Pakistan’ policy has been developed to reduce imports of electronic devices and mobile phones, but implementation is delayed due to lack of approval.

According to officials, the policy aims to manufacture mobile phones, laptops, and other electronic devices in Pakistan. It also includes local production of signal boosters, dongles, and biometric machines.

The policy proposes tax exemptions on raw materials for electronic device manufacturing and suggests imposing up to a 5% levy on imported items.

Local production of POS machines, tracker systems, and smartwatches is expected to save the government millions of dollars and ensure data security. Pakistan annually imports electronic devices worth over $422.3 million.

It is noteworthy that the ‘Made in Pakistan’ policy aims to promote local industry and reduce the import bill. This initiative could strengthen the country’s economy.
