Karachi: (RightNow) The goods transport strike in the country has resulted in a Rs 450 billion loss to export sectors. During the 9-day strike, exporters expressed concerns over increased sea freight charges and lack of consignment space.

Export Associations’ Chief Coordinator Muhammad Javed Bilwani stated that the strike has completely halted cargo movement. The strike, which began on August 8, 2026, has affected the delivery of containers from factories.

He mentioned that the increase in freight costs post-strike poses a threat to exports. Containers could not reach ports, leading to wasted shipping space.

Muhammad Javed Bilwani noted that exporters faced significant losses due to the December 2026 strike. The government needs to ensure a competitive logistics system internationally.

It is noteworthy that freight charges have increased by up to 372% due to the strike. Exporters risk losing their competitive position in the global market due to these additional costs.
