Islamabad: (RightNow) The government has decided to export 108,000 metric tons of imported sugar to the global market. Federal Minister for Food Security Rana Tanveer states this move will not increase sugar prices locally.

Rana Tanveer mentioned that the country has ample sugar stock, and due to higher prices in the global market, the government decided to export. This will allow the government to sell at favorable rates.

The policy faced criticism from Awami Pakistan Party leader Miftah Ismail. He claimed that exporting sugar previously created artificial shortages, and now re-exporting imported sugar harms the public.

The export process will follow international tendering under PPRA rules, according to the Ministry of Finance. TCP is attempting to sell the re-imported sugar in the international market.

It is noteworthy that past sugar import and export policies have faced criticism, causing difficulties for the public.
