Tokyo: (RightNow) Japan proposes a 5-year extension for Type 2 skilled worker visas. The Immigration Services Agency has issued a draft ministerial ordinance for this purpose.

The government plans to implement this new procedure in January next year after public consultation. Currently, foreign workers are allowed to stay for 6 months to 3 years.

Details of the new visa program are yet to be finalized. The government states that complete information will be provided soon. This move aims to align the stay duration with nursing care workers.
