Tokyo: (RightNow) The number of participants in the Asian Games 2026 has reached 17,000, causing housing challenges for Japanese organizers.

According to media reports, the initial limit of 15,000 participants has increased to 17,000, complicating additional arrangements.

Authorities state there is neither budget nor space for extra participants, who are advised to arrange their own accommodation.

Approximately 4,000 to 5,000 athletes will stay on cruise ships, while temporary housing is arranged for 2,000.

It is noteworthy that the Asian Games will be held from September 19 to October 4 in Nagoya and Aichi, with the inclusion of teqball and padel increasing participant numbers.
