Guiyang: (RightNow) In the city of Guiyang, China, a unique engineering marvel is on display where the Shuokou Bridge’s highway passes over apartment rooftops. This distinctive sight was completed in 1997 and has captured public attention ever since.

Beneath the Shuokou Bridge are residential buildings with highways running over their roofs. This was a city administration project aimed at addressing the shortage of affordable housing.

Currently, there are over a dozen apartments under the bridge. Residents face traffic noise and vibrations, but the administration has improved conditions by restricting truck traffic.

This project is an effort to utilize vacant central city space for residential purposes. Residents appreciate this unique opportunity and consider it an attraction of the area.

It is noteworthy that the first 10 residential buildings under the Shuokou Bridge were constructed 2 years later as part of the affordable housing plan. Additional buildings were completed subsequently.
