Islamabad: (RightNow) The Islamabad High Court has requested a report from the Ministry of Communications and the National Highway Authority (NHA) regarding the case of 50% additional charges on motorway vehicles with low balance and non-M-Tag.

Chief Justice Sarfaraz Dogar issued a written order after hearing the petition filed by the Judicial Activism Panel. The petitioner’s lawyer argued that the notification issued on June 3, 2025, is against the law.

The petitioner stated that the NHA notification was issued under Section 10(2)(vii) of the National Highway Authority Act 1991, which does not grant such authority to the NHA.

The court stated that this notification violates citizens’ fundamental rights and has ordered the Ministry of Communications and NHA to submit a report within 15 days.

It should be noted that the court has issued notices to the parties and instructed the law officer to assist in ensuring compliance with the court order at the next hearing.
