Tehran: (RightNow) The Human Rights Activists News Agency warns that 8 women face execution in Iranian prisons. Four of these cases are linked to nationwide protests in January.

These women have been sentenced in political and security cases. They face charges like ‘armed rebellion,’ ‘enmity against God,’ and ‘corruption on earth,’ which can lead to the death penalty.

Among those sentenced in connection with the January protests are Maryam Hadadvand, Mahnaz Chardoli, Leila Abolhasani, and Taraneh Rahimi. Maryam Hadadvand was arrested on January 8 in the Pakdasht area of Tehran.

Human rights organizations express concern over the increasing use of the death penalty against protestors in Iran. According to Human Rights Watch, 29 people have been executed between March and August 2026.

It is noteworthy that reports of sentences against women in Iran have increased. According to the human rights organization Hengaw, 6 women were executed in Iran in August.
