Peshawar: (RightNow) Four significant historical sites in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been added to UNESCO’s World Heritage Tentative List. Director General of Archaeology, Abdul Samad, stated that this inclusion is crucial for the international recognition of the province’s cultural heritage.

Abdul Samad further mentioned that the Bhamala Buddhist Complex, Sethi House Peshawar, Gor Khatri Archaeological Complex, and the historic site of Bazira Barikot in Swat are now part of UNESCO’s Tentative List. This decision was made on May 11, 2026.

The inclusion of these historical sites from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will give the local heritage a prominent position on the global stage. According to Abdul Samad, this step will be significant for the preservation of historical heritage.

This decision is considered a major step in highlighting the global importance of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s cultural heritage. Abdul Samad stated that it will strengthen the historical identity of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa internationally.

It is noteworthy that other sites in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have previously been included in UNESCO’s list, contributing to the enhancement of the province’s historical significance.
