NICVD Karachi completes 500 free pediatric heart surgeries under a special program.
Karachi: (RightNow) Under a special program by NICVD Karachi, 500 successful surgeries for irregular heartbeats in children have been completed. These surgeries, valued at approximately 1 billion rupees, were provided free of charge.
Many children exhibited symptoms such as sudden rapid or slow heartbeats, posing a threat to their lives. These surgeries were part of NICVD’s Pediatric Electrophysiology Program.
Dr. Muhammad Mohsin stated that the program offered advanced treatment for children with irregular heartbeats. He mentioned that the cost per patient ranges from 10 to 15 lakh rupees.
NICVD Executive Director Professor Dr. Tahir Saghir called this achievement a significant milestone for the institution. He praised the support of the Sindh government, which enabled the provision of this expensive treatment free of charge.
It is noteworthy that treatment for irregular heartbeats in children was previously limited in Pakistan, but NICVD’s program has set a new precedent in this field.
