Federal debt under Shehbaz Sharif’s tenure rises by 104%, State Bank reports.
Islamabad: (RightNow) Federal government debt increased by Rs 37,307 billion during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s tenure. According to State Bank of Pakistan documents, this rise occurred over nearly four years.
In contrast, during the PTI government’s nearly four-year tenure, federal debt increased by Rs 18,323 billion. Comparing both tenures, debt rose by 104% more under Shehbaz Sharif.
State Bank figures show that in Shehbaz Sharif’s first tenure, debt increased by Rs 18,764 billion over 16 months. In the current tenure’s first 29 months, the increase was Rs 18,543 billion.
This increase indicates the financial challenges faced by the current government. The growing debt burden could have significant impacts on the national economy.
It is noteworthy that during the PTI government, debt increased relatively less, possibly due to their financial strategy.
