Pakistan wins a global award for its sustainable Panda Bond issuance, strengthening financial ties with China.
Islamabad: (RightNow) Pakistan has won a global award for the issuance of its sustainable sovereign Panda Bond. Advisor to the Ministry of Finance, Khurram Shehzad, stated that this is the first time Pakistan has received such an international honor.
Pakistan issued its first sustainable sovereign Panda Bond, which was oversubscribed by five times its volume. The bond successfully attracted new and large institutional investors.
According to Khurram Shehzad, the Panda Bond has strengthened financial ties between Pakistan and China. This bond provides Pakistan access to major institutional investors.
The bond will be utilized for projects in water, energy, and health sectors. It will also create new opportunities for green and social investments, which are crucial for Pakistan’s economy.
It is noteworthy that Pakistan issued a Panda Bond worth 1.75 billion Chinese Yuan in May 2026. The bond, issued for three years, carries a coupon rate of 2.5%.
