Lahore: (RightNow) The Lahore High Court has ruled that contract employees who become regular employees after five years are eligible for pension. The decision was made by a two-member bench led by Justice Muzammil Akhtar Shabbir.

The court upheld the order to grant pension to the widow of a deceased government employee, dismissing the Punjab government’s appeal. The court noted that the employee was hired on contract in 2005 and became regular in 2010.

The employee passed away in 2016, and the Punjab government argued that ten years of regular service were required for pension eligibility. However, the court rejected this appeal.

The court stated that the employee’s five years of continuous contract service should count towards pension eligibility. The court also referenced a Supreme Court decision.

It is important to note that the court upheld the single bench’s decision to grant pension to the widow, marking a significant ruling for government employees.
