New York: (RightNow) Saima Wazed, daughter of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Hasina Wazed, has resigned from her position as WHO Regional Director for Southeast Asia.

Investigations into fraud allegations against Saima Wazed are ongoing. She assumed the role in January 2024 for a five-year term but has been on forced leave since last year.

The Bangladesh Anti-Corruption Commission has filed a case against her for fraud and forgery. WHO has accused her of financial irregularities during a trip to China and other charges.

WHO plans to complete the selection process for a new Regional Director for Southeast Asia by January next year. This issue holds regional significance.
