New York: (RightNow) The possibility of talks between Iran and the US to resolve ongoing tensions has increased. Both countries’ presidents are arriving in New York for the United Nations General Assembly, where diplomatic engagements are expected.

An Iranian official stated that Tehran’s delegation has full authority to resume negotiations with the US. However, there is no plan for a direct meeting between Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump.

The Iranian official further mentioned that if the US reduces military pressure and lifts the blockade on Iranian ports, Iran could reopen the Strait of Hormuz within a week. Tehran has communicated its proposal to Washington.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the US is ready to engage in talks with Iranian officials, especially if there is hope for positive outcomes from the negotiations.

It is important to note that tensions have risen due to attacks by Iran-backed Houthi groups and concerns over trade routes and energy supply in the region.
