Islamabad: (RightNow) The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has directed K-Electric to provide uninterrupted electricity to consumers who pay their bills. NEPRA stated that cutting power for recovery purposes is wrong and paying consumers should not be penalized.

NEPRA instructed K-Electric to implement this order and submit a report within a month. According to NEPRA, load shedding based on line losses and recovery is illegal.

A spokesperson for K-Electric stated that the company will submit a response within the stipulated time. The company has committed to staying in contact with NEPRA regarding this matter.

NEPRA emphasized avoiding unnecessary load shedding. It stated that the practice of cutting power based on losses should be stopped immediately.

It is noteworthy that NEPRA has ordered K-Electric to prepare a phased plan to reduce losses. Alternative measures to tackle electricity theft and losses have also been advised.
