Around 300,000 Pakistanis lose limbs annually due to diabetes, posing a health crisis.
Islamabad: (RightNow) Approximately 300,000 people in Pakistan lose their limbs each year due to diabetes complications. This equates to 34 individuals losing limbs every hour.
Experts warn that the rising number of diabetes patients has reached crisis levels. Of those who lose limbs, 50% die within 3 years, and 70% within 5 years.
Medical experts state that the diabetes rate among people aged 20 to 80 in Pakistan is 31.4%. Among them, 18% suffer from diabetic foot ulcers.
It is important to note that diabetes, also known as sugar, is a silent killer caused by a lack of insulin or its ineffectiveness in the body.
Remember, there is no complete cure for this disease, but timely diagnosis can prevent complications.
