A South Korean study finds that 2 hours of extra weekend sleep can reduce hypertension risk.
Seoul: (RightNow) A study by a South Korean university reveals that extra sleep on weekends benefits heart and overall health. According to the research, 1 to 2 hours of additional sleep can reduce the risk of high blood pressure.
The study analyzed data from over 40,000 individuals collected between 2016 and 2023. It found that extra sleep on weekends can decrease the risk of high blood pressure by up to 6%.
Results presented at the European Society of Cardiology conference indicate that lack of sleep increases stress on the body, affecting the heart and blood vessels.
According to the World Health Organization, 1.4 billion people aged 37 to 79 suffer from high blood pressure, which increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
It is noteworthy that insufficient sleep increases body stress, putting more strain on the heart and blood vessels. Extra sleep on weekends proves beneficial for health.
