Islamabad: (RightNow) A fire at PIMS Hospital’s Mother and Child Health Ward has exposed severe administrative negligence. Fourteen newborns have tragically died in the incident.

Capital Fire Services had been issuing continuous notices to PIMS administration since 2018 regarding inadequate fire safety systems. The hospital was fined 5 lakh rupees and warned of closure.

A final notice issued on November 10, 2025, labeled the lack of safety measures as deliberate negligence. Copies were sent to the Ministry of National Health and other relevant bodies.

The federal government has taken strict action by suspending PIMS Executive Director Dr. Imran Sikandar for four months. Dr. Muhammad Salman has been given temporary additional charge.

It is noteworthy that the federal government has announced a compensation of 50 lakh rupees for each of the deceased children’s families.
