NEPRA to hold a hearing on a proposed Rs 2.52 per unit electricity price hike due to increased production costs in July.
Islamabad: (RightNow) An increase of Rs 2.52 per unit in electricity rates is anticipated. This hike could impose an additional financial burden of billions on electricity consumers.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has requested NEPRA to raise electricity prices. A hearing on this request, under July’s monthly fuel price adjustment, will take place at NEPRA today.
The request states that in July, the cost of electricity generation from diesel was Rs 50 per unit, while from imported coal it was Rs 54.47 per unit. Similarly, from imported LNG, it was Rs 47.37 per unit.
NEPRA will finalize the increase in electricity prices after today’s hearing. Three weeks ago, NEPRA approved an increase of 75 paisa per unit.
It is noteworthy that in June 2026, the fuel charges were Rs 8.4641 per unit, while the reference charges were Rs 7.7138 per unit. The increase was made under the fuel adjustment category.
