Islamabad: (RightNow). A fire in the nursery of PIMS Hospital on Wednesday morning resulted in the death of 14 newborns. Affected parents have raised questions about the hospital administration’s negligence.

According to officials, the fire broke out in the gynecology ward’s nursery where newborns were in incubators. Initial information suggests a spark in the incubator’s nebulizer ignited the fire, which spread rapidly due to oxygen points.

PIMS administration reported that two doctors, two nurses, and security personnel conducted immediate rescue operations. All emergency exits were open, and 35 fire extinguishers were used.

The incident has left affected families in deep grief and anger. Government-level investigations are ongoing, while PIMS administration has stated its stance on fire safety.

It is noteworthy that the deceased included twins from one family. The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to the families after legal formalities.
